Melben is hiring two Structural Steel Fitters in East Palestine, OH. This is a direct-hire, full-time job on the employer's payroll. You will work on the shop floor building steel parts from prints and shop drawings, so the layout and fit up of each piece starts with you.
The work is hands-on fabrication of structural steel and plate, from light to heavy sections. You will read blueprints or shop drawings, mark and lay out parts, cut and fit them together, and tack or weld your own fit ups with MIG or flux core. Some jobs need an overhead crane to move heavy pieces, so crane experience helps.
The pay is $19 to $26 per hour, depending on experience. Applicants need at least one year of hands-on fabrication work such as fitting, fit up or building steel parts from prints. Two or more years fitting steel plate in a job shop or fab shop is a strong plus. This role is for the person who does the fitting, not someone who supervises it.
Responsibilities
- Read blueprints and shop drawings to lay out parts
- Fit and fit up structural steel and plate components
- Tack and weld your own fit ups using MIG or flux core
- Use shop math for fractions, angles and layout
- Operate an overhead crane to move heavy parts when needed
Requirements
- At least 1 year of hands-on fabrication (fitter, fabricator or fitter welder)
- Reads prints and lays out parts independently
- Currently working as a hands-on fitter, not mainly as a foreman, supervisor, inspector or engineer
- Comfortable with first shift, 5:30 AM to 4 PM, Monday to Thursday
