What kind of welding pays more
From the job orders we counted by hand, July 15 to September 22, 2026, before the live numbers above.
The best-paid welder-only job in our Ohio data was MIG and TIG structural and ornamental work in Cincinnati at $35 to $43 an hour. The top offer overall, $46 to $51, was for a superintendent leading piping and steel fabrication crews. Welders who read prints, fit their own work, and run both MIG and TIG have the most jobs to choose from.
Across the 20 welding job orders in our data (Ohio and Texas together), 13 asked for MIG experience and 12 asked for TIG. Many wanted both.
How these numbers compare with salary sites
Public salary sites put the average Ohio welder anywhere from about $21 to $28 an hour. Those figures mix every kind of welding job and include self-reported pay.
Pay figures are the hourly ranges employers set on job orders they gave Melben over the last 12 months (since August 2026), recounted every day. "Median" is the middle of each job's range, then the middle of those; the "middle half" is where the middle 50% of jobs landed. Places with fewer than 5 job orders are left out. Salary sites average what people report; these are what employers were offering.
