The work

Shops hire grinders to bring parts to final size and finish after milling and turning, often to tenths.

Surface grinders finish flat parts. Blanchard (rotary surface) grinders take stock off large plates and castings fast. Jig grinders finish precise holes and contours. OD, ID and centerless grinders finish round parts.

Most grinder jobs ask you to read a print, set up the wheel and the work, dress the wheel, and check your own parts with micrometers and indicators.
